About the Art Deco style.
Art Déco, abbreviation for the French term Arts Décoratifs, and sometimes simply called Deco, is a style of visual arts, architecture and product design, which appeared for the first time in France in the 1910s (just before World War I) and flourished in especially in the United States, but also in Europe, during the 1920s and 1930s. The Art Deco combined modern styles with fine crafts and rich materials. During its height, he represented luxury, glamor, exuberance and faith in social and technological progress. Since its inception, Art Deco was influenced by the bold geometric shapes of Cubism and Vienna’s secession; the bright colors of Fauvism and Russian ballets; the updated crafts of the furniture of the times of Louis XVI and Luis Felipe I; and the exotic styles of China, Japan, India, Persia, Ancient Egypt and Mayan art. It presented rare and expensive materials, such as ebony and ivory, and exquisite crafts. The Empire State building, the Chrysler building, and other skyscrapers of New York City built during the 1920s and 1930s are style monuments.
